Carrot Seed
Botanical Name: Daucus carota
Common Method Of Extraction: Steam distillation of the seed
Parts Used: Seed
Note Classification: Medium
Aroma: Earthy, with a mildly spicy and pleasantly pungent hint.
Largest Producing Countries: France and parts of Europe
Traditional Use:
Potential uses and benefits: Diluted in a carrier oil such as kukui nut or rosehip seed it makes a wonderful facial oil for mature and weathered skin. It is beneficial in facial washes, after-shaves and cleansing lotions for problem skin. An all around "skin" oil it improves tone and appears to have moisturizing properties. Mildly stimulating it is reputed to have a healthful effect on the liver. An interesting addition to a diffuser or personal aroma.
Blends Well With: Carrot Seed's earthy aroma combines well with Chamomile, Lavender, Coriander and the sweet citruses.
Notes: Carrot seed essential oil does not come from the typical tabletop carrots we are accustomed to. It is from the seed of Queen Anne's Lace (Wild carrot) and is a close cousin of orange Carrots we munch on.
Safety Data: Possible photosensitivity. Potential skin irritant on sensitive skin - always dilute. Not for use while pregnant or nursing.
As with all essential oils, do not use undiluted. Do not take internally unless working with a qualified and expert practitioner. Keep away from children. Not for those with epilepsy or subject to seizures. Always conduct a skin patch test before using any oil on your skin.
