I have noted the information on this preparation
during the ethobotanical surveys in Southern parts of Chhattisgarh ,
India. The senior natives and traditional healers use the Sonth Halwa
in treatment of patients having the problem of Lumbago. It is common
belief among them that the regular use of this sweet preparation helps
the natives to get protection against related troubles.
Materials Required : Sonth (dried Ginger) and Andi (Ricinus communis)
seeds 25 gms each, 250 ml Cow ghee, Gud (Jaggery) and 500 ml cow milk.
Method of Preparation : Andi seeds are roasted in Cow ghee and roasted
seeds and Sonth are mixed after converting it into powder. This mixture
is added in a half litre of cow milk and Gud is add for taste. The
solution is allowed to boil in low flame. When the solution becomes
thicker, stop the boiling process and roast the thicker solution, in
very low flame. After cooling the Halwa it is served to the patients.
The healers recommend the dose on the basis of vitality of patient.
This Halwa is considered as a boon for the patients. I have tasted
this delicious preparation. During the time of attack, the patients
are advised to use this Halwa daily till complete relief. In general,
the healers suggest them to prepare it daily as stored Halwa can cause
bad effects. In normal days, the patients are advised to use it in
every fifteen days. Both Sonth and Andi are commonly available herbs.
