Herbal dishes of Chhattisgarh, India.  98.  Besan Ke Ladu.


This sweet dish is a popular dish in not only in Chhattisgarh but also in other parts of India.  Besan is Chickpea flour.  Chickpea is under cultivation as major pulse crop in Chhattisgarh.  This sweet dish is prepared in special occasions.  It is not consumed by the natives for its medicinal properties but the traditional healers of Chhattisgarh informed that if this sweet dish is consumed in specific doses as medicine it have many valuable health benefits.  The healers consider this preparation as good tonic.  They specially recommend this preparation to the patients having the problem of respiratory troubles and Leprosy.  This preparation is popular among the natives of all age group.  The natives of different regions prepare it by using different methods.  I am describing the most common method.

Material Required : Besan, Ghee, Peesi Shakkar (Sugar powder), Elaichi (Cardamom).

Method of Preparation : Ghee is taken in pan and Besan is added.  Besan is roasted well upto half an hour in Ghee.  After roasting, Besan is allowed to cool down and Sugar and Elaichi are added.  After thorough mixing, round shaped Laddus, are prepared.  These Laddus can be stored upto long time without any problem.
