Traditional Medicinal Knowledge about Herbs used in Treatment of Cancer in Chhattisgarh, India. 100. My experiences with Cancer healers and herbs.
After much hesitation finally I decided to write a long series on cancer herbs based on my Ethnobotanical surveys in different parts of Chhattisgarh. The modern researchers around the world are in search of remedies for cancer. The modern research reports having much technical terms discouraged me to write about cancer in simple words. I waited for six long years and few months' back decided to write a series on these cancer herbs. When I was writing tenth article I receive phone call from world famous cancer expert of US to continue writing on this important aspect. He is aware of the importance of traditional medicine and the great thing is that he is encouraging the young researchers like me. After getting this positive response I started writing at high pace and now you are reading hundredth article in this series. I am getting overwhelming responses around the world. I am receiving hundreds of e-mails and letters from the cancer patients and their relatives. Most of them request me to suggest treatment and give medicines but I humbly request them to visit to Chhattisgarh and meet directly to the traditional healers.
As mentioned earlier I have given the information in the articles, collected many years back. While writing the present series when I tried to contact the expert healers again I got much shocking news. Many of the traditional healers are not with us now. It is very sad for me, as these true experts have passed away without getting honor and recognition from the world community. Although their knowledge is safe with us in form of research articles but it is very hard to collect each and every details based on their life long experiences. Alone I am still unable to do something for these traditional healers.
I am continuously encouraging the modern researchers to come forward to start research with the traditional healers in order to provide scientific base to the traditional knowledge. But unfortunately very few researchers are taking interest. Most of them are interested in Re -search. Very few are interested in true search. The traditional healers are eager to share their knowledge with the modern researchers. It is good sign. By respecting each other's view we can achieve the target successfully. I feel that immediate efforts are needed in this regard.
The traditional healers of Chhattisgarh having expertise in treatment of cancer are eager to treat the patients coming from urban areas and from foreign countries but they are requesting the patients to come at earlier stages in order to get rid from the trouble in promising way. Most of the patients visit at last stage and besides taking traditional medicine they continue the use of modern drugs.
The encouraging responses motivated me to collect information on complicated formulations used traditionally in treatment of cancer. Although I am aware of over 3000 such formulations used internally as well as externally but before writing about it I want to get complete information about it. Most of these formulations are in use. In early days there were more formulations. I am trying my best to gather information on these forgotten formulations also.
I am not a Taxonomist. It is a great problem. I have information about the uses of hundreds of medicinal herbs especially wild Kands but I am not aware of its botanical names. I am seeking help from the modern researchers in this regard. I will wait for few years and if failed to get the support I will take the photographs and by using its local name document it in from of research articles.
Now after writing over 12,000 research articles at Botanical.com it seems I still have enough strength to write on different aspect especially on cancer herbs. Keep reading articles and writing the letters to me.
